Amphotonix offers a comprehensive portfolio of low cost semiconductor optical amplifier products for optical networking applications. The range covers discrete semiconductor optical amplifiers
through to SOA arrays and ultimately highly functional hybrid modules.
C-Band Optical Pre-Amplifier |
This high gain semiconductor
optical amplifier is primarily intended for use as an optical pre-amplifier
in high bit rate applications (10 Gbit/s and 40 Gbit/s). Its high gain
and low noise figure provide a high performance, compact and price competitive
alternative to single channel EDFAs in receiver sub-systems.
C-Band Optical Power Booster |
This semiconductor optical amplifier is primarily
intended for use as an optical power booster in high
bit rate transmitter modules. Its high output
saturation power level provides a compact and low
cost alternative to competing approaches.
This product is appropriate for both metro and
long haul applications where the booster increases
the transmitter signal power for moderate power
laser and modulator tandems.
Nonlinear SOA |
This high performance semiconductor optical amplifier is
primarily intended for use as an optical nonlinear element in ultra high bit
rate all optical switching applications. The buried heterostructure device
offers short gain recovery times with low polarisation dependence.

Reflective SOA |
The reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (R-SOA) is offered with a range of gains and output powers and
is available as either fully tested 'chip on carrier' (details on
request), or packaged in the industry standard, low-cost, single mode fibre
pigtailed TO-can. This product is suitable for use as a directly modulated 'colourless
source' in WDM PON applications at up to 1.25Gbps; and also as a wideband
gain element in external cavity tunable lasers.
Box TOSA |
A high specification Reflective Semiconductor Optical
Amplifier (RSOA) packaged in a pigtailed box TOSA
with thermoelectric cooler. The R-SOA capitalises on
the exceptionally low PDG, NF and drive current
performance of the well established Kamelian range
of SOAs and is available in a range of gains and
wavelength bands. The device is suitable for
1.25Gbit/s data modulation.

1300nm Optical Amplifier |
This semiconductor optical amplifier is intended for use in
1300nm transmission systems including access, metro and regional applications
where the SOA increases the signal power to overcome losses associated with
for example, passive optical components. Its high output saturation power
level provides a compact and low cost amplification approach. Two packaging
variants are available; non-isolated, and with integral isolators.
CWDM Pre-Amplifier |
These semiconductor optical amplifiers are primarily intended for
use as optical preamplifiers in high bit rate systems (2.5 Gbit/s, 10 Gbit/s
and 40 Gbit/s). Their high gain and low noise figure provide a unique high
performance, compact and low cost amplification solution to S and L Band
receiver sub-systems. Two packaging variants are available; non-isolated and
with integral isolators.

CWDM Power Booster |
These semiconductor optical amplifiers are primarily intended for
use as optical power boosters in high bit rate systems. Their high output
saturation power levels provide a unique high performance, compact and low
cost solution to S and L Band amplification. Two packaging variants are
available; non-isolated, and with integral isolators.

Superluminescent Diode |
The Superluminescent Diode (SLD) is a high performance wide
spectrum light source designed to meet the demands of a range of applications
over several sectors including optical sensors and test equipment. Housed in an industry standard 14-pin butterfly package,
incorporating thermistor and thermo-electric cooler, the SLD delivers high
power, broadband light into a single mode fibre terminated to the requirements
of the end user.

Evaluation Boards |
The Kamelian evaluation boards provides a versatile and user
friendly platform for customers to evaluate the capability of Kamelian's
products. Each unit comes with
a comprehensive PC based control program which allows easy control
and monitoring of the SOA operating conditions. The onboard processor and
flexible analogue and digital I/O facilities enable the evaluation unit to be
interfaced with other telecommunications equipment for systems based
evaluation trials.
The demountable 14-pin butterfly version can be used with Optical Pre-Amplifier, Optical Power Booster and SLD products.
A TO-can version is available for the evaluation of the reflective SOA (R-SOA).
A Bias-T daughter board permits the application of modulation signals up to 1.25
GHz via an SMA connector on the unit.
