Optical amplification is a key technology in telecommunication systems. SOAs deliver unique functionality in access networks, enable exploitation of an increasing range of communications wavelengths and represent a compact and cost-effective alternative to EDFAs (Erbium doped fibre amplifiers).

Existing SOA products include optical pre-amplifiers with high gain and optical boosters with high output power, operating at 1310nm as well as in the C-band, S-band and L-band.
